Interest List for Level 2 Training

Hello! I hope this email finds you well. I'm a psychoanalyst, Dr.HeaKyung Kwon who is an IFS Korea training organizer and IFS co-lead trainer as well. I'm sending this email to introduce the IFS training that will be held in 2024 for therapists and practitioners in Asia.

IFS is based on the multiplicity of the human mind, understanding our symptoms, defenses, and resistance not as pathological problems to be removed but as phenomena that protect us from danger and hurt. Through the process of understanding our parts that create certain symptoms, defenses, and resistance for good reasons, we encounter the underlying wounds, traumas, and memories that give rise to these symptoms, defenses, and resistance. By healing the underlying wounds and traumas that are the root causes of symptoms, IFS therapy helps individuals unleash their unique innate potential and possibilities, allowing them to be more self led and improve their relationships with other people. In IFS, we can do this meaningful and healing work with least resistance or pain because we work with defenses first and do it respectfully.

IFS therapy is an evidence-based therapeutic approach, listed by NREPP (National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices), a U.S. government agency responsible for registering evidence-based treatments and programs. Among the methods listed for their scientific basis, IFS therapy is known for its relatively simple concepts and ease of application, making it effective for clinicians to use in practice, and allowing clients to experience change in just one session, making it a highly revolutionary therapeutic approach.

Interest in IFS therapy is growing in Asia, and in 2023, many practitioners based in Asia participated in the Level 1 training, marking the successful start of IFS Asia Training. The good seeds planted this year are spreading throughout Asia, providing a foundation for the growth of IFS in the region.

Those who have taken IFS classes or read books about IFS will understand how easily accessible and intuitively resonant the concepts of IFS are. However, those who have tried it know that as they delve deeper into IFS, it becomes more challenging and complex. IFS is not a psychotherapeutic model that can be understood and applied solely through conceptual knowledge. IFS places importance on experiential learning, and it's not easy to apply it effectively without clinicians having an IFS therapy for him/herself. Many participants in IFS training have discovered how different the IFS they read in books or heard in lectures is from the official IFS training. They have also realized how they were practicing IFS incorrectly and have felt the need for formal training.

IFS is an extremely effective psychotherapy method that resonates well with Asian culture. The Level 1 training, which consists of 90 hours, will guide participants safely into the deep world of IFS through meditation, lectures, experiential exercises that introduce various concepts, demonstrations, experiences as clients and as therapists, and sharing in small groups. I hope that many mental health professionals in Asia and their clients will benefit from the world-class IFS training, and that IFS training will be a catalyst for raising the quality of psychotherapy in Asia. I believe that IFS can be a powerful tool for healing Asians who have experienced enormous trauma but haven't received proper healing.

Finally, I want to express my gratitude to those who have shown interest and passion for the new psychotherapy education I have been introducing. Without their interest, support, and requests, it would have taken a long time for IFS training to establish itself in Asia. Inspired by their mission, I and the IFS therapists in Asia will do our best to ensure that IFS psychotherapy takes root and flourishes in our region.

Sincerely,
HeaKyung Kwon, Psychoanalyst
