Intimacy from the Inside Out© IFIO Fundamental Workshop with an emphasis on Courageous Communication
Intimacy from the Inside Out©, is a model of couple’s therapy that draws primarily from the Internal Family systems model of psychotherapy therapy, but also includes aspects of psychodynamic theory, systems thinking and neuroscience. Intimacy from the Inside Out© is an experiential model born out of a desire to carry the concepts of IFS into a relational setting and to use the intimate relationship itself as a vehicle for growth and healing of the individual, as well as the couple. This workshop will introduce IFIO with an emphasis on Courageous Communication.
Hello, this is HeaKyung Kwon, a psychoanalyst and a trainer from the IFS Institute.
We are planning to host the IFIO Level 2 training in November 2025. In this context, we are very pleased to introduce Toni Herbine-Blank, the founder of IFIO (Intimacy from the Inside Out), an IFS-based couple therapy highly regarded as a leading approach in the field, through this workshop.
IFIO stands for Intimacy from the Inside Out, a couple's therapy approach that is based on the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model and incorporates elements of psychodynamic theory, systems thinking, and neuroscience. This workshop is the first of two IFIO Fundamental workshops, and we are planning a second workshop with Toni on another topic in early 2025.
IFIO was born out of a desire to apply IFS to relationships and to use intimate relationships as a tool for the growth and healing of both individuals and couples. Toni, a couple therapist, developed IFIO in 2009, inspired by the idea that IFS concepts could be applied to relationships and that intimate relationships could serve as a vehicle for individual and couple growth and healing. Today, IFIO is gaining tremendous recognition not only in the United States but worldwide, and it is a couple therapy model that every couple therapist aspires to learn.
Like IFS, IFIO takes a systemic approach, combining intrapsychic work with interpersonal exploration. It is a powerful relational therapy model that can be applied to all couple and individual work. Although I do not work with couples often, when I faced challenging moments in treating difficult couples, attending Toni’s IFIO training felt like discovering an oasis in a desert.
I had many personal insights while receiving IFIO training. First, Toni conveys the course material with such clarity, much like a master teacher. Second, her understanding and compassion for her clients are beyond imagination. Third, she is a true master of hope merchant, never losing hope in any situation and continually imparting that hope to her clients.
I am delighted to have the opportunity to introduce Toni Herbine-Blank, the founder of IFIO, to therapists in Asia. I hope this workshop will provide you with the opportunity to learn how to address the underlying emotions in couple therapy, not just the content of the words, and how to focus on both partners without bias. I hope it will help you become a more skilled couple therapist, one who truly understands and deeply empathizes with your clients.
Stay healthy, and I look forward to seeing you at the IFIO Fundamental Workshop.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
HeaKyung Kwon
