14th FIAP(Forum for International Agricultural Partnership)

The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) held the 14th Forum for International Agricultural Partnership (FIAP) at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul on August 21 (Mon) with the theme of "Supporting national development utilizing public-private partnership (PPP) and its relevance to agricultural/rural development”.

Since Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2015, there has been increasing interest in the implementation of sustainable rural projects, and the funding method for international development and cooperation in the agriculture sector. As PPP has been considered one of the alternatives for sustainable policy design and fund raising, this forum was expected to be the venue for sharing the achievements and implications of past PPP in the agricultural sector.

In the first presentation, Kim Seong-woo, general manager of Samjong KPMG, discussed the agricultural/rural development plan of developing countries using the "green fund." In the second presentation, Director Kim Yong-bin of the Development Marketing Institute talked about "Agricultural PPP Projects for Regional Development" and the possibility of adopting a PPP model in developing countries’ agriculture sector. Lastly but not the least, Dr. Kim Youngkee from Korea Eximbank discussed the implications of the PPP projects supported by the Export-Import Bank of Korea, and offered practical advice for developing countries’ application of PPP in their future agriculture projects.
